Hull Technical Specialist
Position Summary
As part of the AJISS Engineering team, the primary role of the Hull Technical Specialist, based in Halifax, NS, is to support the AJISS Service Delivery team with the management of defects for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPVs) and Joint Support Ships (JSS). The Hull Technical Specialist also supports the AJISS Engineering and Supportability Team with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or survey on board the ships while alongside.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Conduct investigations either on board the ship while alongside or using the Technical Document Package (TDP); Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support the investigation and resolution of defects;
Develop Job Instruction and Statement of Work (SOW) to support the resolution of defects;
Identify issues within the Technical Document Package (TDP) and propose improvement/corrections;
Support the Service Delivery team with the management of Service Providers conducting work on board the ship; Support the Supportability team with the identification/assessment of alternate parts, obsolescence issues; and various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or survey on board the ships while alongside.
Provision of technical advice to enable hull systems and equipment to be correctly operated or maintained;
Develop a good working relationship within Thales and the customer's organization to ensure coordination and rapid resolution of issues;
Minimum Requirements
Possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in a marine sector associated with vessel construction, refits or maintenance within the last 10 years;
Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine hull systems, lifting point/appliances, paint and preservation, pipefitting and plumbing, welding methods, machinery systems and ship structure.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard;
Familiar with certification requirements including but not limited to Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset;
3-year technical program diploma offered by a recognized technical institute or certified to the QL-6B level of military technical training is an asset;
Knowledge of hull structures, repairs and modification to ship’s hulls, inspections, surveys and quality control, and corrosion control;
Other valid certifications (NACE, Non-Destructive Testing, Welding, etc.) is also an asset.
Physical Demands
Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships;
Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting;
Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided);

The *Donation Staff- Level 1* is responsible for performing specific assigned tasks within the donation hall that require no phlebotomy skills.
The *Donation Staff- Level 2* is responsible for performing the plasmapheresis and ensuring that donor safety and care are maximized.
*Position Objective:*
To collect in a timely manner a product that is of the highest quality while providing a welcoming environment where our valued donors can safely and comfortably donate plasma.
*Position Responsibilities:*
*Donation Staff- Level 1*
1. Maintain thorough knowledge and adhere to all Grifols
2. ’ established policies and standard operating procedures, good manufacturing practices, applicable Provincial and Federal regulations.
3. Ensure donor confidentiality.
4. Performing equipment daily calibrations, quality control, maintenance, cleaning, request for repair and maintain accurate documentation.
5. Setup plasmapheresis machines according to SOPs
6. Donor check-in including confirmation of donor identification, document completeness verification, and transcription of comments.
7. Discontinue donor and disposables from plasmapheresis machine according to SOPs
8. Operate plasmapheresis machine and all other necessary equipment as per Grifols’ SOPs, performing equipment daily calibration checks, quality control, maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting (with exception of venipuncture site and needle manipulation), request for repair and maintain accurate documentation.
9. Promote donor satisfaction ensuring that donors are safe and comfortable attending to their needs
10. Ensure that all donor’s questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally.
11. Maintain accurate documentation throughout the plasmapheresis procedure.
12. Disinfect and/or clean equipment between donors as required.
13. Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner.
14. Properly clean any blood or plasma spills.
15. Maintain inventory of supplies, complete inventory requests as needed.
16. Manage tasks to best accommodate donor flow and production levels.
17. Remain professional at all times in a fast paced environment.
18. Report quality issues and procedural deviation to QSM department and management.
19. Address all observations identified by Quality personnel.
20. Perform proper waste management of regular, recyclable and biohazardous waste.
21. Attend all required training sessions, staff meetings, etc.
22. Flexibility to work in other department of the donation center, actively transitioning to areas of need to promote operational efficiencies.
23. Maintain a consistent, regular attendance record.
24. Be available to work weekends, evenings and some holidays.
25. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Label plasma bottle and collection tubes
2. Perform venipunctures in order to obtain all necessary labelled samples/units accurately and efficiently. Troubleshoot by changing needle position/ manipulating venipuncture site.
3. Management of minor adverse reactions in the donation area, including proper documentation of these reactions in PC-Blut and plasmapheresis information label.
4. Providing assistance as needed to Physician Substitute for management of serious adverse reactions in donation area.
*Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:*

1. High school diploma or higher education.
2. Excellent bed-side manner and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required. Must have legible handwriting.
3. Proficiency with computers and related peripherals
4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure and technical manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
*Donation Staff- Level 2*

1. At least one-year phlebotomy experience in the hospital/industry.
2. Certification or qualification in recognized course related to phlebotomy is an asset.
