Commissionaires BC is proud to provide security services to a Government of Canada Public Safety site located in Burnaby.

We are currently looking for security professionals who would be interested in working at a high profile Government of Canada site, and are comfortable and able to go through a Top Secret Clearance process.

Successful candidates will need to have an open availability, including weekends and overnight shifts. 

Ideal candidates would be:

  • Able to provide superior customer service to both customers and clients
  • Experienced in following strict protocols and dealing with emergency situations
  • Be of good character and sound mind,
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Reliable
  • Capable of obtaining a Top Secret Clearance. 
  • In possession of valid BC Security Licence and OFA 1 certificate or willing to obtain
  • Able to work shift rotations including mornings, afternoons and graveyards

Top secret clearance requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years living Canada
  • Must hold Canadian citizenship 
  • Have no criminal record or association with criminal activities (including family, friends and acquaintances)
  • The test itself comprises of:
    • Completion of comprehensive paperwork
    • Thorough and intense investigation on past activities, associations and your character
    • Examination of vices, dishonesty, and financial status
    • Polygraph Test – Must complete and pass testing

**Please note – due to the nature of the clearance, processing times can take 10-12 months to complete. Commissionaires would be able to offer temporary employment in the meantime**

**Qualifications:**
+ 6-10 years of relevant experience as an ISO officer
+ Proficiency in application, architecture, information, and cyber security
+ Proficiency in one or more: GCP, AWS and Azure
+ Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and software
+ Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
+ 5-10 years of experience in Application Security and/or Security Architecture
+ 5-10 years of experience Public & Private Cloud Security
**Education:**
+ Bachelor's degree/University degree in Information Security/Computer Science/Electrical, Mechanical Engineering /Information Technology or equivalent experience
+ Master's degree preferred

  • Observe and report and suspicious activity
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to promote physical security and safety; watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
  • Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements
  • Contribute to communication and awareness of security policies and issues as needed; warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles
  • Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits; control/direct traffic; Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements
  • Investigate and report maintenance and safety conditions, which might endanger client, its associates or public safety
  • Ensure that daily administrative documentation is always kept concise and complete; Maintain all daily assigned equipment in functional and presentable condition
  • Investigate security related accidents/incidents, interview witnesses, complaints, and victims; responsible for gathering physical evidence and preserving it for future use; complete report and follow up with management as needed
  • Investigate and report fires, evacuations, hazardous situations, or other facility related events, provide back up to client personnel
  • Responsibilities include crowd control and assisting Fire Department/EMS or other officials during these processes; maintain control at traffic accidents, assist victims, and investigate
  • Responsible for ensuring that all employees on company property have proper company issued identification

Required Qualifications:

  • MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK 1ST, 2ND, AND 3RD SHIFT SUNDAY - SATURDAY
  • BSP Guard card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some Security experience (private/public sector).
  • Mature, and professional individuals that can give a high level of customer service.
  • Must be able to work any shift, and multiple shifts.
  • Can handle a high level of competency regarding administrative and data entry tasks.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Can handle stressful situations and emergencies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required

  • Access Control:  Monitor and control access to the premises, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed entry.
  • Patrols:  Conduct routine patrols to deter criminal activity and respond to incidents, ensuring the safety and security of the property.
  • Emergency Response:  Act promptly in case of emergencies, such as fires, medical situations, or security breaches, and report incidents as necessary.
  • Surveillance:  Use surveillance equipment to monitor and report on suspicious activities, ensuring a proactive security presence.
  • Customer Service:  Provide exceptional customer service by assisting clients and visitors with information and directions when needed.
  • Report Writing:  Maintain detailed and accurate incident reports, documenting any security-related incidents and activities during your shift.
  • Collaboration:  Work closely with other security personnel, local law enforcement, and emergency services when required.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • No Prior License Required:  We can assist you with the security guard license application process.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification : Certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong Communication Skills:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Observational Skills:  Be detail-oriented and able to identify potential security threats.
  • Customer Service Orientation:  Friendly, approachable, and capable of providing excellent customer service to clients and visitors.

  • Valid NB Driver's License:  A valid New Brunswick driver's license is preferred.
